Overview

Beacon International is a comprehensive coverage plan for individuals traveling outside their country of residence and outside the U.S. You can obtain instant quotes and purchase Beacon International instantly on this website. Unlike many other travel medical insurance plans, Beacon International can be effective on the same day or any future date you specify. Right after you make a purchase, you will receive an email confirmation from where you can download your fulfillment documents including ID card, visa letter, certificate wording and so on. The visa letter can be used at the consulate or the embassy for Schengen visa purposes.

What is covered and not covered?

Beacon International would generally cover any new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the insurance. It does not have any coverage for expenses related to pre-existing conditions, maternity, vaccinations or preventive checkups.

Exception: Beacon International provides the coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions for persons below the age of 70 years. If you purchase $550,000 or higher policy maximum, it will cover up to $150,000. For policy maximums between $60,000 and $200,000, it would be covered up to $50,000. For anyone that is 70 years and above, there is no coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions.

Prescription drugs are covered just like any other eligible medical expenses.

If you purchase Beacon International insurance for 90 days or more, you will be covered up to $500 for acute dental pain.

Beacon International will provide the coverage outside the country of residence as long as the person is traveling outside the U.S. Additionally, it will also cover trip interruption, loss of checked luggage, border entry protection, act of terrorism, repatriation of mortal remains, emergency medical evacuation and much more. Please look at plan benefits for complete details.

How much is covered?

In Beacon International travel insurance, you will have to first pay your chosen deductible (ranging from $0 to $5,000) before the insurance pays anything for covered expenses. The deductible must be paid even for doctor visits as there is no concept of copay. Until you completely satisfy the deductible, you will continue to pay out of your pocket. The deductible is not just for the hospitalization.

Example:

Let's assume that you have purchased a $60,000 policy maximum with a $250 deductible for 90 days.

  • Let's assume that the physician charges you $150 per visit and you need to visit several times.

The first time you visit the physician, you will pay all of that $150 yourself. You still have $100 left towards the unsatisfied deductible.

On second visit, you will have to pay $100 yourself. Now that you have completely satisfied your deductible per certificate period, the insurance plan pays the remaining $50.

For any subsequent treatment, whether for the same condition or a different condition, you don't have to pay the deductible again. Beacon International plan will pay 100% for covered medical expenses, up to $60,000. However, if your medical expenses are beyond $60,000, you will be responsible for that.

  • Let's assume that you are in an accident and are hospitalized for 3 days.

The hospital charges $8,000 per day for a total bill of $24,000. Assuming this is the first instance of your needing to use the insurance, you pay your $250 deductible, and the insurance plan will pay the rest.

Even if you extend the insurance, you don't have to pay the deductible again for the certificate period.
